Advocacy

There are many ways to advocate for the things you care about. Whether or not you have strong advocacy skills, Families at Work can prepare you to advocate for your beliefs and needs before a local, regional or state board. Government can only do its job with your advice and view, and by your feedback on how you experience services.

Most state and local governing boards provide time for you to provide public comment. And, recently, local and state agencies are conducting more accessible formats, such as posting on YouTube.com or Facebook.com. Whatever technology you feel comfortable with can draw you closer to your public bodies and enable you to gain access to critical information that can change and improve services for all constituents.

Families at Work can orient you to the available public resources and how to use them in a systematic way to organize, advocate and advance your position. Boards often are posting their minutes to be sure you have access to provide comment. The work of government is all about you and your community. Though governmental entities may appear at a distance, they work very hard to give you access. Families at Work knows these systems and can help you navigate their twists and turns.
